Garden State Live!—Where the Blues Came to Rock

For those who believed that North to Shore was just an annual series of festivals in Newark, Asbury Park, and Atlantic City—you are completely mistaken!

Asbury Park Vibes had the honor of covering North to Shore’s latest Garden State Live! concert. This event, in a monthly series at Sound Waves in the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, featured blues artists Debra Devi, Twisted Livin’, and The Billy Walton Band.

Each band had its own version of the blues. Debra Devi’s guitar growled with emotion as she fired up the crowd. Twisted Livin’ slow burned to a frenetic finish. The Billy Walton Band channeled their inner Texas tornado sound, much to the delight of the audience.

While each offered their unique spin on the blues, the bands shared the same language and infused their performances with a distinct New Jersey flavor.

From North to Shore: “Garden State Live! is a monthly concert series that shines a spotlight on New Jersey's vibrant music scene, at our Sound Waves Theatre. In partnership with the Prudential North to Shore Festival, each show brings a fresh mix of rising artists from NJ’s vibrant music scene, with a spotlight on talent from South and Central Jersey. Each month, experience a fresh lineup of local talent, with every show delivering a different genre and vibe—from soulful blues and energetic pop rock to modern country, nostalgic pop punk, and everything in between.

Whether you're a die-hard local music fan or just looking for a new sound, Garden State Live! offers an unbeatable mix of homegrown bands, intimate atmosphere, and high-energy performances—right here in Atlantic City. Support local. Discover new sounds. Feel the energy of the Garden State—live and loud.”

Born from an existential argument between Modernists and Postmodernists, I have found my home with the post-punks and those who love a good slice of pizza. I live in a world of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction and the ever-elusive Decisive Moment. Punctum and Studium aside, I like to take photographs of people and things to see how they look photographed. While I miss both CBGBs and a cool place to bowl in Asbury Park, Punk is still whatever we made it to be. The Future is Unwritten, and I owe it all to Mr. Bradley and Mr. Martin. Let Us Now Praise Famous Men (and Women) and ask the Little Prince for his thoughts. Sometimes, I'm On the Road, but if it weren’t for the honor of the thing, I’d just as well walk. My loving wife supports this albatross of an obsession, and my kids put up with me well. BA, MFA, M.Ed., BCEA, Nikon, FUJI, Tri-X.
