Dispatch Brings Its Summer Tour to Asbury Park for the 4th of July

The Jersey Shore is a great place to spend July 4th…and it was even better if you were in Asbury Park last weekend as Dispatch brought their summer tour to the legendary Stone Pony Summer Stage. And they didn’t come alone, bringing along John Butler, G Love & Special Sauce, and Donavon Frankenreiter. There may not have been fireworks that night, but the weather was perfect, the crowd was ready for some great vibes, and the star-studded lineup delivered four great performances.

The evening kicked off with surfer/songwriter Donavon Frankenreiter. He was joined by G Love for a short acoustic set which included personal fave “Free”. They were then joined by the rest of Special Sauce and jammed through another quick set that included some of the band’s most popular hits like “Rodeo Clowns”, “Cold Beverage”, and “Baby’s Got Sauce.”

American-Australian singer John Butler was up next. I was really looking forward to seeing Butler, playing Sunrise Over Sea multiple times leading up to the show. And he definitely delivered. His passionate performance connected with the crowd, especially when he played popular songs like “Treat Yo Mama” and “Zebra”.

The night then belonged to Dispatch. This summer’s tour is in support of their latest album Yellow Jacket, and they played some new songs like “Whisk Me Away”, “Trinket”, and the title track “Yellow Jacket”. This was my first time seeing the band live, and its was such a good show. Known for their indie/roots style, it was the perfect compliment for such a beautiful summer evening by the ocean. The energetic crowd was definitely into their set, which also featured some of their most popular tunes like “The General” and “Bang Bang” plus covers of “Take Me Home, Country Roads” and “Like a Rolling Stone”.

This tour is definitely worth seeing, and there are plenty of dates left before it wraps in Colorado on August 8. If you can’t catch them together this summer, all four acts are worth seeing on their own too. Until then, check out the work of these awesome artists wherever you stream your music.
