Nostalgia in Motion: Motion City Soundtrack Lights Up The Pony
As part of the Prudential North to Shore Festival, Motion City Soundtrack lit up The Stone Pony with a high energy, sold out show that felt both nostalgic and fresh. Opening the night was Phoneboy—a cool moment for me, since I go way back with some of the guys from their basement show days. Now they’re touring full time, doing what they love, and absolutely owning it!!
Then came Motion City Soundtrack—a band I’ve known by name forever but hadn’t really dug into beyond their biggest tracks. The longtime Minneapolis-based emo/pop-punk band made up of Justin Pierre (vocals, guitar), Joshua Cain (lead guitar), Jesse Johnson (keyboard), Matthew Taylor (bass), and Tony Thaxton (drums) brought a wild amount of energy to the stage. They kicked things off with “Broken Heart” and closed the night out with an encore of classic “Everything Is Alright” and “The Future Freaks Me Out.” The crowd was loud, the band was tight, and every song hit hard - whether you knew the lyrics or not.
It was the kind of night that reminded you how powerful live music can be. Between seeing old mates succeed and watching a seasoned band still give it their all, it was a “had to be there” kinda show that’ll stick with me for a while!
