The holidays are a time to honor traditions and Taking Back Sunday have much to celebrate when the band’s annual holiday shows come around to Starland Ballroom! Each year, the band performs two nights there and usually feature up and coming acts as openers, and this year in particular held some genuine Jersey pride. On the second and sold out night they were joined by not one, but two Asbury Park mainstays—Modern Chemistry and The Parlor Mob.
Modern Chemistry have long been well regarded for their unique indie rock based sound and have opened up for TBS on several occasions. Their set once again highlighted how much of a seasoned and dynamic act they are! Frontman Joe Zorzi has a genuine stage presence and the band’s musical chemistry is undeniably organic which resonated greatly. Fellow Asbury Park rockers The Parlor Mob also delivered a highly memorable set! The band has hasperfected their blend of blues infused psych rock and they more than brought the house down in their Starland debut! Frontman Mark Melicia’s stage presence was engaging as always and each band member more than brought their respective musical chops with them. The band’s electric energy was consistently captivating and having been a band for years, and their artistry and skill shined through effectively. Tt was truly exciting to see them dominate the stage!
When it came time for Taking Back Sunday to hit the stage, the crowd were more than ready and their set was an absolute blast to experience per usual. Frontman Adam Lazarra was in tremendously strong form throughout as his vocals and energy felt particularly vibrant, and they benefitted from the return of original bassist Fred Mascherino as well. TBS’s setlist was full of staples and fan favorites, and their sheer joy and passion were truly infectious. The band’s chemistry and musicianship were exhilarating to watch throughout. The inclusive and upbeat nature of these holiday shows are a large part of their appeal, and this night was one of their most well-rounded and joyous to date. Having been a band for over a decade, they have perfected their stage show and their holiday concerts are a pure celebration for their fans which has continued to resonate. If you’re a fan of TBS and have to yet attend a holiday show, it’s an experience worth seeking out! Till next year!
