Wu-Tang Clan Reunite for The Final Chamber Tour at Prudential Center
Few hip hop acts have amassed fan loyalty quite like that of the Wu-Tang Clan. The 12 person hip hop collective, or “army” as they’ve described themselves, have long been considered by many to be one of, if not the most influential acts in the genre. Having launched several successful solo careers, world tours and even a franchise in of itself, the group decided to embark on a farewell tour entitled The Final Chamber tour which made it’s way to Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
With each of the members returning here, it served as an exhilarating and jam packed event that served as a incredibly strong showcase of their enduring appeal and lasting legacy. The setlist managed to pack in hits from their lauded albums such as Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) as well as make space for the many solo projects released under the Wu-Tang moniker. It was utterly thrilling to see them operate both as a group and individually with plenty of stand out moments. And it was especially exciting to see members such as RZA, GZA, Method Man and Ghostface Killah perform their many hits, and the on-stage chemistry was electric throughout. As a group, Wu-Tang Clan have collaborated with many other artists throughout the years, and for this tour they made sure to include some surprise guests. On this night fans were treated to appearances from both Lauryn Hill and Mary J Blige. Even with the star studded cameos though, this very much was the Wu-Tang Clan’s show and their incredible sense of energy, passion and community resonated tremendously for the duration of their set.
Credit also to their opener, fellow acclaimed hip hop duo Run The Jewels whose vibrant energy more than helped set the tone for the show. The duo which consists of rappers El-P and Killer Mike share incredible chemistry which was purely electrifying to watch, and they played off of one another seamlessly. While they had a typically shorter set than usual, it in no way hindered their ability to dominate the stage and deliver a blistering set full of their trademark energy and showmanship. While it may seem like a daunting task to open up for legends such as Wu-Tang, Run The Jewels rose to the occasion and delivered a captivating performance.
Creating a lasting legacy as a group of artists is a task many aspire to, and the Wu-Tang Clan final tour is a testament to their artistry and the undeniable impact they’ve left on the genre. This performance was an exhilaratng display of showmanship and if this is truly the end of the road for the group, they’ve chosen to end on an epic note. Overall The Final Chamber Tour showcases one of the most enduring and groundbreaking acts of all time, and no doubt fans new and old will resonate with it greatly.
