Bad Nerves Take Over Wonder Bar

What’s the best way to beat the hump day blues? A double dose of punk rock of course. And that is just what Bad Nerves served up as they brought their Still Nervous Tour to the Jersey Shore. Asbury Park’s Wonder Bar proved to be the perfect spot to host the UK band as their faithful fans packed the dance floor.

San Francisco’s Spiritual Cramp opened the night with their classic punk style that includes hints of new wave, reggae, alternative rock with a dash of defiance. Michael Bingham is an engaging frontman who demands your attention from the jump. The band’s raw energy never let up and their fans enjoyed every second of it. I look forward to the next chance I have to catch them live.

Bad Nerves took the stage and showed the crowd why they got the chance to tour with The Hives last year. Their electric set included numerous tracks from their excellent sophomore album, Still Nervous, including “Don’t Stop”, “Antidote”, and “You’ve Got the Nerve.” Bobby Nerves’ vocals and the guitar play of William Phillipson may have been the focal point on stage, but the band as a whole put on a damn good show. This definitely felt like a group on the verge of stardom, and I highly recommend checking them out if and when they play near you.

Until then, go check out both bands wherever you stream your music.

Michael is an Asbury Park based photographer of what life puts in front of him. He snuck his camera into a concert for the first time in 2011 when he went to see Soundgarden on their reunion tour. Two of those shots ended up being published in Photofantasm Soundgarden: Nudedragons to King Animal, and he has been bringing his cameras to shows ever since. He relocated to Asbury in 2019 for its rich music and art scenes...and to save on tolls! He is a big supporter of the local music scene and has become well known amongst the bands for his photos. Michael is also a regular vendor at the Asbury Park Punk Rock Flea Market and can be found selling his prints at a variety of local markets.
