Logic Brings College Park Tour to NYC
Logic brought his College Park tour through New York City to Hammerstein Ballroom on June 4th, 2023. This was my first time at Hammerstein Ballroom, and I was pleasantly surprised by the venue. It was a quick walk from Penn Station, making it very convenient for fans who take public transportation like me. It had high ceilings with beautiful decorations and multi-leveled balconies. This made viewing and photographing Logic a great experience! The tour had excellent openers who were also a part of Logic’s record label BobbyBoy Records.
Travis Stacey did a fantastic job of interacting with the crowd. It was happy not to smile while watching him because he smiled for most of his set. He came out with an acoustic guitar, and while I never listened to his music before, it was very nice to hear. While he had a short set, it was compelling and left you remembering his name. Logic even came out during part of his set, and the crowd went crazy!
TMan The Wizard performed in between sets. He had a lot of energy and ran all over the stage. This was a great intermission, instead of watching the crew change everything over and waiting patiently.
C Dot Castro played many songs by Logic that he was featured in and even some that featured Logic which was very cool since I was familiar with them. He also played a lot of originals and some classics of his. He also played some unreleased music on this tour, which was very special. He talked about how he had been through a lot and didn’t know what he would do when he got older. One day Logic talked to him and invited him to Bobby Boy Records, which changed everything for him.
Juicy J came out in a unique outfit that got the crowd’s attention. He came out in a straight jacket with a unique mask. He played many Three 6 Mafia songs and some of his originals. He has an of popular classic songs that I recognized. He could mix some of his old and new songs, making his set fun. A mosh pit opened up during his set, which was rare for a rap show but very cool.
DJ Rhetorik opened up the set for Logic and did a great job of hyping up the crowd!
Logic released his College Park album in February of this year. It has 17 tracks with many features on it. He spent a lot of time interacting with his fans during his show. During his set, he played over 30 songs, the most I have ever seen an artist do. This was an era tour, so he went through all his album eras. He changed outfits between each album so fans knew he was switching into a new era. He even brought out C Dot Castro for one of the songs he’s featured on called "Lightsabers," which was awesome!
The first album he started with was Under Pressure, his first album released back in 2014. It was so cool to see him bring back some of his classic songs that came out almost a decade ago! From there, he went into his next album, which came out the following year, called The Incredible True Story.
Next, he played some songs from his album Everybody, which came out in 2017. This album features his most famous song, named after a phone number "1-800-273-8255." This is the number for the suicide and crisis lifeline, which makes it a memorable song. It has over 1 Billion plays on Spotify, which is excellent because it educated many people that it’s okay to reach out for help. After that, he went into Confessions of a Dangerous Mind in 2019. No Pressure was subsequent, which came out in 2020 during the lockdown. Lastly, he got into his newest album College Park which came out this year and is what the tour is named after. My favorite on this track he played to open up his set is "Wake Up," featuring Lucy Rose.
In between almost every song, he made sure to talk to someone in the audience. The set design on stage was a replica of his basement and featured a lot of details that fans could point out. While performing, his openers and friends sat on the couch, and he would stop and go over to them, which was fantastic. He recently dropped a new song called "Juice ll" which he didn’t play at this show, but I’m sure he will soon! You could see At one point, a fan asked Logic to take their phone so that he could record himself on stage or take a selfie. Sadly, the phone was locked, so Logic couldn’t.
Something that Logic said throughout his set, which his fans recited back, was to spread peace, love, and positivity. This is a powerful message, and I hope you will spread it too!
