Turnstile Return to Philly with an Epic Sold Out Show
Baltimore-based hardcore band Turnstile have had an incredible upward trajectory these last few years—from having a devoted cult following to becoming a widely recognized touring act that has graced festivals and opened up for legendary acts such as Blink-182. Following the release of their latest album Never Enough, the band have returned to touring and brought their electrifying live show to the skyline stage at the Mann Center. Frontman Brendan Yates once again proved he’s one of the most commanding performers working today, his physical and passionate energy all but exploded off the stage. The rest of the band were in incredible form, with bassist Franz Lyons and rhythm guitarist Meg Mills showcasing their dynamic musicianship. Drummer Daniel Fang and lead guitarist Pat McCrocy also delivered and the band’s on stage chemistry may be their most organic and exhilarating to date.
The setlist managed to deftly incorporate both older and newer material. It was exciting to hear new tracks such as “Sunshower”, “Dull” and “Seeing Stars” live. As engaging as the new record sounds live, it’s still an absolute kick to hear the fan favorites live and “Holiday”, “TLC” and “Blackout” go just as hard, if not more, and so segued against their most recent material.
Also included on the lineup as direct support were Philadelphia-based punk rock band Mannequin Pussy who also are celebrating a milestone year touring off their critically acclaimed record I Got Heaven. The band’s set was full of their trademark exhilarating energy as frontwoman Missy delivered an all out and commanding performance…on her birthday no less! The band’s on stage chemistry was electric per usual and songs such as “Loud Bark” and “I Got Heaven” were electrifying, and each member brought their respective dynamic energy to their performance. Despite being openers, the band showcased why they’re one of the most engaging live acts around with a set full of intensity, emotion and a timely message of inclusion and acceptance.
For most acts, having dedicated fans and delivering a one of a kind experience is the goal. For Turnstile, they’ve more than managed to achieve that and the Never Enough Tour is yet another showcase of their pure artistry and connection to their massive fanbase. If you have yet to experience one of their shows and this tour is coming to your city, it’s highly recommended you do so.
