Underoath & The Ghost Inside Bring Co-Headlining Tour to Asbury
Underoath and The Ghost Inside braced the heat at The Stone Pony outdoors as part of their Co-Headlining Tour. They brought along openers, Better Lovers, and We Came As Romans. Due to a potential storm, set times were changed, and I didn’t get to see Better Lovers, but I heard they put on a fantastic set! I hope to catch them again next time they’re in town.
We Came As Romans was up next, and they are a band about brotherhood. They always mention their fallen band member and brother Kyle at some point throughout their set, and it helps the crowd remember him. They also achieve this by mentioning the Kyle Pavone Foundation, which helps educate fans past, present, and future. The band has been together for 15 years and isn’t stopping soon. I’ve seen them live a few times, and their opening song has a great intro that hypes up the crowd every time. The band has an infectious energy you can’t help but sing along to. The bassist Andy even climbed up on top of a structure and played on top of it. The crowd cheered as he ran through it to get to the structure in the back of the outdoor venue. He did spins and leg kicks while on top of it, which were very impressive. Their latest album Dark Bloom came out last year, and I can’t wait to see what they release next!
The Ghost Inside played next and is a band I was looking forward to seeing. I saw them for the first time at the Stone Pony last year. I knew one of their songs without even realizing it was called Engine 45, which is always fun to sing along to. They played with three big bands. I also enjoy A Day To Remember, Bad Omens, and Beartooth. At that show, I learned about their horrible accident and how they didn’t let it stop them but instead used it to fuel their fire to overcome it and come back better than ever.
The Ghost Inside is signed by Epitaph Records and has been together since 2007. The Ghost Inside focuses on making music directed toward outcasts and sets out to inspire fans worldwide. They put on a fantastic set, and I plan to see them live more. Their comeback after tragedy and the way they persevered is very inspiring to fans and musicians all over. Their first album dates back to 2008, which means they have also been together for 15 years. It’s a testament to a time when bands can stay together for that long.
Underoath closed out the night and has been a band the longest. Their first album came out all the way back in 2002, which means they have been around for 21 years! It’s crazy how much time has passed since they formed. Their most recent single, Let Go came out this year and has impressed everyone. It will be included in their album, set to come out early next year. Underoath owned the night with a very immersive and impressive led backdrop. The lead singer went to the barricade to get closer to the fans, always leaving a story to tell.
Underoath did an excellent job of bringing high energy to their performance, apparent throughout the entire set. They could be heard headbanging, jumping, or running around the stage. They plan to take a new direction while maintaining their storytelling through their songs. They also released another single titled Lifeline (Drowning), a song their fans can easily relate to. It’s about being in a toxic relationship; you need to get out of it before you drown. Surprisingly they had never toured with any of the bands before, which makes it very exciting. They have had a busy year touring, and their summer tour continues until August 19th, so make sure you get tickets before it’s over!
